Mushroom Lodge would like to welcome our first ever news letter, which will be published on a monthly basis.
You will have a chance to see and hear what is happening around Mushroom Lodge in terms of great animal sightings experienced by the clients, including new updates of the Lodge.
Being one of the first Zambian owned Lodges and based inside the South Luangwa National Park, Mushroom Lodge offers its visitors comfortable, rustic modern accommodation in twelve secluded thatched chalets set under ebony trees along the Mfuwe Lagoon.
We look forward to sharing more updates and pictures with you next month.
Mushroom Lodge was last year visited by His Excellency Dr. Kenneth Kaunda who is the founder of Mushroom Lodge and was impressed to see his old house still in good use.
During the 70’s and 80’s, The Presidential House situated next to the Mushroom Nsaka became a “ a home away from home” for the first state president of Zambia.
As seen by Dr. Kaunda on his last visit, the House has been lovingly restored and guests are welcome to request a tour of the House.
A lot of guests have the question, “why is it called Mushroom Lodge?” And the real reason was because when Dr. Kaunda used to bring his children to Mushroom, the House looked exactly like a mushroom and they all stuck to calling it the Mushroom House hence the name Mushroom Lodge.

![]() Mushroom Lodge and Presidential House was later leased to Matula Investments trading as Mushroom Lodge and structured and built 12 new thatched chalets along the Mushroom Lagoon with both single and double occupancy and was re opened on 27th December 2007 by the late President, Doctor Levy Patrick Mwanawasa. Mushroom Lodge is a child and family friendly safari lodge offering our clients many memorable safaris in the heart of the South Luangwa National Park.
